Future Play

A ground-breaking project investigating the creation, presentation and touring of performance for children in the UK

Dusk children audience

Future Play was a 4 year research project exploring the context for the creation, presentation and touring of ambitious performance for children.

We toured 3 productions, collaborated with 10 partner venues, 11 research associates and gathered feedback from thousands of audience members across the country.

We shared our findings from Future Play on 11 November 2015 at an event hosted by The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. The speakers were David Harradine (Artistic Director, Fevered Sleep), Moira Sinclair (Chief Executive, Paul Hamlyn Foundation), Michelle Dickson (Director of Touring, Arts Council England) and Louisa Davies (independent creative producer/Royal Shakespeare Company).  Thank you to everyone who joined us at this event.  The gathering was filmed and a full recording will be available to view here in the next few weeks.

We have made a Future Play booklet, which brings together everything we learnt over the course of our research. You can download a copy from the download tab above. There are also a limited number of print copies available, please email admin@feveredsleep.co.uk if you would prefer to receive a print copy. We’d love to have your feedback on this resource: please complete our short online survey.

Future Play was funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation and Arts Council England.
