An Infinite Line
An ongoing series of projects that are created in response to the
particular quality of light in different places
We are currently looking for new partners to work with us on An Infinite Line.
If you are interested in talking with us about new incarnations of the project, please contact Louise Blackwell
An Infinite Line is an ongoing series of projects that respond to the quality of natural light in different places. An Infinite Line: Brighton, commissioned for the 2008 Brighton Festival, was the first in this series.
An Infinite Line is genuinely cross-disciplinary, and might lead to new works in performance, installation, sound art, publication, broadcast, film and video. As each version of the project evolves as a response to the particular quality of light in a particular place, each will find a form most suited to its location. In each incarnation we will endeavour to find the best match between the form, the context, and the light.
We are currently developing several new versions of An Infinite Line:
An Infinite Line: Dunnet Head is being created at the most northerly point on the British mainland, and will materialise in summer 2012. The project here will draw on the history of Dunnet head as a lookout point, and on the local glassmaking industry, as well as on the quality of Dunnet’s light.
An Infinite Line: Thames will be taking place across the autumn in 2012, and looks at the light falling over London from the points of view of the bridges spanning the river. An Infinite Line: Thames is a project in three parts: a series of unexpected interventions that interrupt the rhythms of daily life; an installation; and a 24 hour performance.
We’re also in the very early stages of developing An Infinite Line: Merseyside
As well as creating new incarnations of An Infinite Line in the UK, we’re keen to extend the reach of the project from the UK to the rest of the world.
