Dan de la Motte
Collaborative Doctoral Award PhD Researcher
Hear how to pronounce my name here. My Pronouns are he/him.
I’m a Collaborative Doctoral Award Placement with Fevered Sleep and Queen Mary University, which is a fancy way of saying that I’m spending some time exploring and contextualising Fevered Sleep’s performances with children and young people; how they are made and what is the ‘politics’ or activism of this work.
Away from Fevered Sleep I make work like this myself (or try to), so I’m coming to this research from a place of understanding on the intricacies of navigating how to make performances with children and younger people.
I first encountered Fevered Sleep when they were an Associate Company at the Young Vic and I was working as an usher; the first Fevered Sleep show that I fell in love with was The Forest in 2009. I spent a lot of time picking up conkers. Back then, I would never have thought that I would go on to research the company!
Away from my PhD and Fevered Sleep I'm a freelance Creative Practitioner and performer.
I am proud to have worked as a facilitator in venues as diverse as stately homes, art galleries, recreated ancient Roman kitchens, hairdresser’s (and during Covid; online) for Fevered Sleep’s Grief Gatherings, and wrote about this for their blog. More recently I have delivered a workshop for the company on Creative Climate Justice, which is something I do for arts and cultural organisations.
I’m often around St Margaret’s House, where Fevered Sleep are based. I was Artist in Residence here a little while back, and am currently cooking up some more projects with them, so if you see me about do say hi!
