 We are delighted to have been invited to present a new film of our project Sheep Pig Goat as part of the upcoming group exhibition Animal Voices: Contact Through Sound . The group show is curated by Jessica Ullrich and Martin Ullrich at Museum Sinclair Haus in Bad Homburg, Germany. 

The exhibition invites you to listen more closely to animal sounds. It brings together artists who do just that: listen, respond, imitate, and allow themselves to be guided by the sounds of other animals. Their works open up new avenues to a world that surrounds us but often remains unheard. We invite you to converse with an (artificial) raven, experience the world from the sonic perspective of a bat using VR, listen to diverse voices on land and underwater – and ultimately explore communication beyond sound.

Museum Sinclair-Haus - An exhibition house for art and nature

Since 1982, the Sinclair-Haus Museum has presented temporary exhibitions focusing on the multifaceted relationship between humankind and nature. The interdisciplinary exhibitions and events explore ways of perceiving, understanding, and reflecting on nature through the lens of art. In this way, the museum illuminates the interconnections between nature, culture, and science, opening up new perspectives on their interplay.

Sheep Pig Goat was commissioned by Wellcome Collection (London) in 2017 as part of the exhibition Making Nature. It explored the possibility for - and the limits of - interspecies empathy and communication, through a series of improvised encounters between dancers, musicians, singers, sheep, pigs and goats. A further iteration took place between in 2020 at the University of Surrey School of Veterinary Medicine. This version of the project included a series of encounters between human performers and cows, sheep and chickens.

For the exhibition at Museum Sinclair-House, we have re-edited filmed footage from the original version in 2017, making a new video artwork that imagines a world in which human and non-human animals explore ways to be together through proximity, a yearning for touch, listening and sound.

This was a creative research project that brought together dancers, singers, musicians, sheep, pigs, goats and other animals, to explore communication and empathy between species.

I felt our biological buffooneries, our bestiary of relations, getting skewed. I felt, beside more and less furry bodies, unstaged, uncomposed, totally unreal-real, and that felt like the point.
